About the artwork
I grew up with a family summer cottage down on the shore at Chalker Beach, Connecticut, a private cottage community in Old Saybrook, CT. Classic little cottages dotted the shore line and inland. Many were built on farm land after World War II when wood shortages allowed only enough wood for a two car garage. Often the cottages were build by the owners and shared by extended family through out the summer. Relatives filled every available space. Times have changed and many of these classic wooden summer beach cottages have been claimed by hurricanes or the wreaking ball to be replace by year around fancier domains. Beach Cottage Pencil plays homage to a simpler time when the average middle class family could pool their resources and own a piece of summer heaven.
