A covered bridge closed since Tropical Storm Irene reopens! The Taftsville Covered Bridge connects Woodstock and Quechee. Repairs cost $2.5 million.

The Taftsville Bridge is a two span 189 foot long Multiple Kingpost Truss with an arch. Spans are 89 and 100 feet. It carries River Road the over Ottaquechee River in Taftsville Vermont. This bridge was built in 1836 and is one of the oldest covered bridges in Vermont.

This bridge is near and dear to my heart. I grew up right across the highway. We crossed this bridge daily on our paper route and spent many happy hours crossing this bridge and walking on the River Road. We thought we would lose it in the flood of 1973 and then again in Irene. Thankfully it has9 lives and has been restored. I got to travel it once again this past summer. Thanks for the beautiful photos.

Thanks Linda, the new bridge is a stunner. Most of the bridges in the area have a faded red color, this newly repaired bridge just pops! And to think just a week ago it had all kinds of construction equipment around it.
