Description
Rain soaked farm fields and a classic red barn in this New Hampshire sunset. Etna, New Hampshire. Fine art by Edward M. Fielding - www.edwardfielding.com
....
Etna, New Hampshire was the original center of the town of Hanover, NH, home of Dartmouth College. Today Etna, is the sleepier, more rural part of Hanover and houses part of the Appalachian Trail, working farms, a small library, its own post office, and a small convince store. "Downtown Metropolitian Etna" is the locals term for the tighter knit of homes and business around the general store.
This large old classic New England red barn sits near the road at the end of Hayfield Road and sometimes supports a small herd of three beef cows. Maple sugar trees are tapped at the edge of the hayfields and across the street horses graze and are trained.
The hay fields and pasture surrounding this support a variety of wild life including Bobolinks who nest in the open fields in early summer, wild turkeys and deer are often seen at the tree line at dusk. An occasional moose yearling has been spotted galloping up the fields.
Over the barn, looking west towards the Connecticut River, Hanover, and the mountains of the Upper Valley one can often see a glorious sunset over Vermont especially after a summer thunderstorm as was the case in this view.
