Walking around Home Depot one day I spied a funny looking coconut type object in the gardening section. It was actually the seed pod of the Elephant ear plant. A tropical plant that produces huge leaves. I decided to take a chance, plunked down my $5 and brought home this huge heavy coconut like seed for my New England garden.
Why not give it a try? Well a cold wet spring did not give this tropical plant the best start in life but around mid summer it actually started to sprout! It managed to put forth about six giant leaves before the fall frost killed it. But in that time it became the talk of the "neighborhood", everyone I met walking the dog wanted to know all about this curious plant that I was growing. Maybe they thought it was marijuana or something...
